Role of C-tactile fibers in pain modulation: animal and human perspectives
نویسندگان
چکیده
C-tactile (CT) fibers, a population of unmyelinated (C) fibers that respond particularly well to gentle stroking, are widely believed subserve affective touch. However, these (termed C low-threshold mechanoreceptors (C-LTMRs) in non-human mammals) have also been proposed be involved the modulation pain. Intriguingly, functional evidence from both human and animal studies indicates CT/C-LTMR can contribute allodynia as mediate pain inhibition. In spinal cord, C-LTMR form glomerular synaptic arrangements, providing input several populations interneurons within nociceptive circuitry. Thus, system conveys signals subject intricate processing cord is well-situated sensory pathways enable

15 صفحه اولThe role of the human C-tactile system in affective somatosensation and pain
Affective touch perception in humans is a complex construct of input from mechanoreceptive afferents, current homeostatic state and contextual factors. Previously, a relationship has been identified between the pleasantness perception of soft skin stroking and the firing rate of unmyelinated C-lowthreshold mechanoreceptive afferents (C-LTMRs) known as C-tactile (CT) afferents in humans. This re...
